I was at the mall yesterday, two days before Christmas. It was full with people doing their last-minute shopping. They all seem to have a lot of money, and retailers know how to encourage shoppers to spend those last few pesos in their pockets. We see enticing deals like “Up to 70% off on selected items,” “Buy 1, Take 1,” or “For a party of 6, one eats for free.” You have to be careful with these deals because many shoppers, having yielded to tempting offers, end up with stuff that they don’t really need.
To the conscientious shopper, the Bible shows you a deal you could not ignore. In fact, it is the reason why we celebrate the Christmas season. Here are a few important verses:
- For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16).
- We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us (1 John 3:16a).
- So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
This Christmas, God is reminding you of his special offer: eternal life instead of death; forgiveness instead of condemnation; love instead of wrath. You don’t have to work or pay for these. It’s all paid for. It’s a gift. You could not get a better deal than this.
Receive the gift. It’s free. But remember, it’s not cheap. Jesus Christ gave up his life so that we might have all of these. So, here’s our part in the deal: acknowledge your sins before God, surrender your life to Jesus Christ, and align yourself with the will and Word of God. That might seem a lot to ask, but think carefully of what you gain in exchange: an intimate relationship with God for all eternity.
Don’t miss out on this special offer and have a merry Christmas!
